So yesterday was the day that I have been waiting for for months – the #EastMidsMeetUp!
I was super excited because it was my first proper blogger event. I attended the #DerbyBloggersBrunch in May, but that was more of a casual meet up than an event. The #EastMidsMeetUp was organised by Emmie from Carpe Diem Emmie, Kirsty from Kirsty Ralph, Kirstie from Behind the Scent and Lianne from The Brunette Says and took place at Manhattan 34 in Leicester. Around 40 bloggers attended and there were some awesome brands there such as Blogosphere Magazine, Angel Eyes and Danique Hairdressing.
The wonderful Charlotte from Shoestring Chic and Discovering Charlotte organised a casual pre-meet up lunch at Bru in Leicester city centre. I am so glad I tagged along to that because I was unbelievably nervous and getting to know a few bloggers before the main event was really helpful.
Bru is genuinely one of the best cafes I’ve ever been to. The service was incredible! Everyone was smiling and cheery, even when they had a huge queue of people to serve. From what I heard, they’re like that all the time. A couple of the other bloggers mentioned that the service is always outstanding, so I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Leicester!
I can never resist a good milkshake, so I ordered a classic chocolate milkshake and a brownie. My milkshake was thick and creamy, just like a good chocolate milkshake should be. The chocolate brownie was served warm so the thick fudgy topping went all gooey and melty. Safe to say I was in chocolate paradise!
We finished our food and headed off to Manhattan 34 for the main event. On the way in we each picked a unique fact about one of the other bloggers at the event out of a bag. The ice breaker game was to match the fact to the blogger who it belonged to. My fact belonged to Izzy from A Dose Of Chatter and it turns out that one of her songs featured on Geordie Shore! How cool is that?!
The venue itself was fantastic. It had huge windows which let the gorgeous sunlight pour in. The wooden floors and exposed brick walls gave the place a rustic feel, yet the sophisticated cocktails and the décor made it modern and classy. It was the perfect venue for the meet up. The atmosphere was really chilled and casual. Everyone was stood around chatting, getting to know each other and drinking cocktails. Plus the lovely Becky Bruce performed for us all and she was incredible!
We had a couple of talks at the event. The first was from Gabby from Cool As Leicester PR and she gave us a super informative talk about the dos and don’ts of working with brands. We also had a talk from the lovely ladies behind Blogosphere Magazine. They told us about how the magazine started, the subscriptions available and the events that they’re planning on organising in the future. Very exciting!
The ladies from Angel Eyes and Danique Hairdressing were on hand providing complimentary eyelash extensions and hair styling. I didn’t bother myself, since I don’t wear makeup and I doubt there was much they could have done with my hair anyway! However the bloggers who did choose to have a makeover looked incredible.
The event was in support of Bowel Cancer UK and Rainbows Hospice so the girls had organised a raffle to raise money for them. It must have been my lucky day because I won not one, not two, but three prizes! I know, how greedy of me! I won some stationary from Ohh Deer, a bronze subscription to Blogosphere Magazine and bowling vouchers from MFA Bowl. It’s not often that I’m lucky enough to win on a raffle so to win three times was fantastic, but also a little bit embarrassing!
At the end of the event I was given two incredible goody bags absolutely bursting full of treats! There’s all sorts in there including a beautiful candle, Love Hearts hand wash and a gorgeous mason jar. I’ve wanted a mason jar for so long so I’m thrilled that I’ve finally got one! In fact, I loved the goody bags so much that I wrote a goody bag reveal post all about them! If you’d like to find out more about the products then you should definitely check it out.
I met some lovely local bloggers including Leanne from Latte Leanne, Lora who vlogs literally everyday (wow!) and Becky from Geek Gets Glam. I really hope we’ll all meet up again, and I’m sure we will. We’re already discussing it now!
I had a fantastic time at the event and I’m so grateful to Emmie, Kirsty, Kirstie and Lianne for organising everything. Honestly I could never organise an event like that myself. I’m also really grateful to the brands who kindly provided their products for the goody bags and raffle prizes. Plus I’d like to say a big thank you to Blogosphere Magazine, Angel Eyes, Danique Hairdressing, Manhattan 34 and all of the other brands involved in the meet up.
Hopefully there will be another #EastMidsMeetUp soon!
