7 things I’ve learned since I had my nose pierced

It’s been just over a year since I had my nose pierced. I can remember when I first had it done, honestly I was kinda clueless! So I thought I’d take a look back and list a few of the things I’ve learned since I had it done. If you’ve got your nose pierced then maybe you’ll relate to a few of these.

1. Decent studs are hard to find

Now I don’t know if I’m just looking in the wrong places but, for me, it’s difficult to find decent studs. It’s not hard at all to find the cheap ones that you bend to secure in place, they’re everywhere! If you get on with those then that’s okay but they just don’t feel secure to me. Plus it’s not easy to bend the post when it’s in your nose! Which brings me on to my second point…

2. Some studs are better than others

I personally prefer the corkscrew style stud. They seem complicated at first (or at least they did to me!) but I think they’re much easier and secure than any other style. However (like I said in the first point) they’re not the easiest type of stud to find, but if you can get your hands on one or two then it’s definitely worth the hunt.

3. If you get a bump then you’re stuck with it for a while

Sorry to break the bad news but if you’re unlucky enough to get a bump on your piercing then you’ll be stuck with it for a long time. Unfortunately most people do get a bump at some point; I had one for about four months. There’s loads of remedies out there including crushed aspirin and tea tree oil but my bump went away after I changed my stud for a better quality one. Everyone is different though so what works for one person might not work for you.

so this happened yesterday… #nosepiercing

4. The honeymoon period doesn’t last forever

I wanted to get my nose pierced for years so when I finally had it done I couldn’t stop admiring it. Of course, I still love it but the initial obsession wore off after a while. You get used to it and then it becomes normal just like anything else.

5. You’d be surprised by just how many things you can get caught on your nose stud

From towels to bracelets, you can get pretty much anything caught on your nose stud. It doesn’t matter what it is though, it’s guaranteed to hurt every time. Even more so if you’ve just had it done! The thing is though, when you’ve just had it pierced you’re either hyper-aware of it or you completely forget it’s there. Either way, it’s going to hurt because it’s already sensitive. After a while it doesn’t hurt anymore and you get used to it but getting things caught on it can still be painful!

6. No amount of research can prepare you for it – just go with the flow

If you really want your nose pierced, or anything pierced, then no amount of research will prepare you. You’ll read piercing horror stories and people banging on about how much they love their piercing but everyone is different. You won’t know whether it’s right for you if you don’t give it a go so sometimes it’s best to just do it!

7. My face isn’t the same without it

I’ve always been able to picture myself with my nose pierced so it wasn’t a huge shock when I finally had it done. Despite the fact I spent nearly 20 years of my life without a stud in my nose I can’t imagine myself without it now. It’s a part of who I am and I wouldn’t change it for the world! All of the hassle with the different studs and the bump that felt like it would never go away was 100% worth it. Having my nose pierced was one of the best things I ever did!

Leave me a comment and let me know whether you’ve got your nose pierced. If so, can you relate to a few of my points? If not, have you got any piercings?

    1. Don’t get me wrong, if you really want it then go for it! I love mine, it was definitely worth the hassle. But if you’re not crazy about the idea then I wouldn’t bother just in case because I think they can scar quite badly. Don’t give up on the idea!
