Happy chocolate milkshake day!
I hope you don’t mind but I’m beginning the celebrations a tad early. It’s not actually chocolate milkshake day until Monday. But I thought I would get into the spirit of things by sharing with you my top ten chocolate milkshakes.
I haven’t always been a big milkshake lover. In fact, my love for milkshakes only blossomed when I hit my teens which (despite how I feel) wasn’t that long ago.
Some of my top milkshakes can be found all over the UK so don’t be upset if you don’t live in the East Midlands like me. However there are a couple of local gems in here that I just have to shout about!
Oh and just in case you’re wondering, they’re not in any sort of order. All of these milkshakes are beautiful in their own special way!
1. Bru Coffee and Gelato – Leicester city centre
This paradise in the heart of Leicester city centre is very new to me. In fact, I’ve only been once. It was a few weeks ago when I went along to the #EastMidsMeetUp. I didn’t even consider anything else because I knew that I wanted a chocolate milkshake, and I wasn’t disappointed. It was thick and chocolatey and exactly the stuff that dreams are made of. Plus the whipped cream on top was an extra calorific bonus!
2. Pizza Hut – locations nationwide
When I ordered my first Pizza Hut milkshake, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting much. But boy I don’t think I’ve ever been more wrong! I order it every time I go and it’s so good that usually I’ve finished half of it before the waitress has even brought over the salad bowls. Some chocolate milkshakes just aren’t that chocolatey but this one is a chocolate lover’s dream.
3. Chocolate fudge brownie Frijj – available at most supermarkets
This was the milkshake that started my chocolatey love affair. I can remember exactly where and when it was when I first bought it. It was love at first sip. It’s just a really affordable but tasty milkshake. Plus you can buy them almost anywhere. I love the normal chocolate flavour too but there’s just something special about the chocolate fudge brownie one. There’s almost always a special offer on in one of the big supermarkets too so you can get it for even less!
4. Harbour Bar – Scarborough sea front
This place has been around for donkey’s years! My mum can remember visiting when she was too young to see over the bar and apparently it hasn’t changed at all since then. It’s not hard to see why they’re still open after all these years, you’ve only got to try one of their milkshakes! My most recent visit was last week when me and my family went to Scarborough for the day. I ordered their chocolate milkshake float which is basically a chocolate milkshake with a scoop of ice cream floating in it. The milkshake was delicious on it’s own but the ice cream scoop took it to the next level!
5. M&S chocolate milkshake with Belgian chocolate chips – locations nationwide
This is probably the most calorific milkshake in my top ten however it is one of the best. This isn’t just an M&S milkshake, it’s an M&S milkshake with solid chocolate chips floating around in it. Yep, you read that right! It’s on the pricey side at £3 a bottle but, believe me, it’s worth it. It’s not easy to get your hands on though. Well, it isn’t for me. I’ve only ever been able to find it in their Nottingham store. It might be in a store near you though! Look for it next to the milk section.
6. Cafe Thornton’s – locations nationwide
Me and my family go to the East Midlands Designer Outlet very regularly and we almost always stop by Thornton’s for a pit stop. I’ve been going there for years and I can count on one hand the times I’ve ordered anything other than a chocolate milkshake. Depending on who makes it, it can be kinda runny. However when it’s made right it’s one of my favourite chocolate milkshakes. They’ll even add whipped cream and chocolate sauce if you like!
7. The Pudding Pantry – Nottingham city centre
Their salted caramel brownie chocolate milkshake is literally heaven in a mason jar. It’s so indulgent you could order it for dessert and you wouldn’t even wish that you ordered the cheesecake instead. There’s brownie chunks on top, in the milkshake and at the bottom plus whipped cream and a homemade mega marshmallow on top. Personally, I don’t think you could ask for anything more. Plus I was just on their Twitter page and BREAKING NEWS JUST IN The Pudding Pantry do freakshakes! I need to get my booty down there ASAP.
8. McDonalds – locations nationwide
I don’t even know why I added the little locations nationwide thing. I’m sure everyone has got a local McDonald’s – they’re everywhere! Anyway, I might be a snob about some things but I am not a milkshake snob. You can’t deny it, McDonald’s do damn good milkshakes. I personally love it when they’re so thick that you can’t suck it up the straw, but each to their own!
9. Ed’s Easy Diner – locations nationwide
I could not create a list of my top chocolate milkshakes without including Ed’s Easy Diner. Their food is okay, but their milkshakes are to die for! Especially the Nutella one. I know, it’s not technically a chocolate milkshake but it’s close enough! They’re kinda pricey but if you order it to drink in the restaurant then you’ll have enough to serve two. Or just one if you’re feeling especially thirsty. The best part is, the Nutella doesn’t blend well so every now and then you’ll sip up a thick blob of Nutella goodness. Heaven.
10. Krispy Kreme – locations nationwide
This is the most recent addition to the top ten – I literally tried this milkshake yesterday. It’s a bittersweet kinda story actually. My brother ordered the chocolate milkshake and I ordered the new smores milkshake. I had high hopes, and I thought mine was nice until I tried my brother’s. Turns out his was 10x more chocolatey and delicious than mine! The smores milkshake is okay, but the classic chocolate rules when it comes to Krispy Kreme milkshakes. I’ll definitely order the chocolate one next time I’m there!
Leave me a comment and let me know what you think of my top ten chocolate milkshakes. Have I mentioned any of your favourites? Or is there a heavenly chocolate milkshake out there that I haven’t tried yet?!
