    I want to lose weight and there is nothing wrong with that

    I’ve seen a lot of people posting about their new year’s goals and resolutions but this year I’ve noticed a change. I’ve noticed less people want to lose weight and more people want to embrace their size and love their bodies as they are.

    Obviously, this is fantastic! I love seeing people love themselves; it’s something I wish I could do! But I can’t, and that’s why I want to lose weight and, frankly, there is nothing wrong with that.

    I’ve been a big girl my whole life. I’ve always had an appetite and I’ve always loved food. I’m notorious for comfort-eating and I’ve always struggled to manage my relationship with food. I gradually put weight on throughout my teens and into my twenties and I feel like now is the time for me to put a stop to it.

    If I continue to put weight on year-on-year like I have done for most of my life then I will just get bigger and bigger. That’s not good for my self-esteem or my health.

    I follow plus-size and body-posi bloggers and influencers across all social media platforms and I admire them, I really do! They seem to have mastered the one thing I never have, self-confidence, and that’s not easy for anyone. But I know that I could never be confident with my body the way it is now so I need (and want!) to make a change.

    I feel like when I announced that I wanted to lose weight on Twitter everyone assumed I was going on some crazy diet! That’s not the case at all. I’m simply being more mindful of what I’m eating to take some control over my health.

    When I get into the cycle of eating rubbish, I’m stuck in it for good. But the same goes for when I get into the cycle of eating more healthily. Once I’m in a routine it’s not too difficult for me to stick to it because it’s a lifestyle change and not a temporary fitness fad.

    Losing weight isn’t necessarily a bad thing and there are different ways you can lose weight, some healthier than others. But just because someone wants to lose weight it doesn’t mean they have an unhealthy perception of themselves or an unhealthy relationship with food.

    It is possible to be on a journey to self-confidence and body-positivity while also losing weight.

    Just because someone says I should be happy with my body and embrace my size doesn’t mean I have to. At the end of the day, what I do with my body is nobody’s business but my own and if I want to lose weight then I shouldn’t be criticised for that.

    So if one of your new year’s resolutions is to love yourself as you are and become more self-confident, then go for it! And if you’re hoping 2018 is the year you finally fit back into your skinny jeans, then you go girl! Whatever your goals are for this year, I hope you achieve every single one of them.
