When myself and Jordan went away to Scarborough for a few days in August we hoped to keep costs to a minimum. So we cooked something in the holiday flat most nights but we wanted to make our last night special and head out somewhere to eat.
We were going to go for a classic fish and chip tea (an absolute must when you’re by the sea) but we’d eaten so many chips already we fancied something different. After a quick Google, I stumbled upon Gianni’s.
Gianni’s is a long established, family-run restaurant that has been in the heart of Scarborough for over 25 years. They offer a range of authentic and traditional Italian meals all freshly prepared and homemade including a range of pasta dishes and all the pizza you could wish for.
Naturally, both myself and Jordan ordered pizza. I went for the spicy meatball pizza and Jordan chose the prosciutto pizza with mushrooms. As if that wasn’t enough, we ordered a side of homemade chunky chips – or patatine fritte if we’re being authentically Italian.
The pizza was delicious. The base was thin and crisp, just as it should be, and the toppings were spread generously. The meatballs were enormous and you could definitely tell they were homemade. I was really impressed with those in particular.
Jordan really enjoyed his pizza too. Prosciutto is an all-time favourite of Jordan’s so he had no doubts about what he was going to order. He was super pleased with the added mushrooms too.
The homemade chunky chips were perfect! Crisp on the outside and beautifully soft and fluffy in the middle. I think that’s what everyone looks for in a chip, isn’t it?
We knew we’d have more than enough food between us but we both really struggled to finish our meals. I can promise you though, we tried our best!
Midway through our meal we realised we’ve never actually visited an authentic Italian restaurant before. I know, where have we been? We love pizza but we always end up at Pizza Hut or ordering in a Domino’s. Don’t get me wrong, I love them both, but there’s something special about a proper, traditional, homemade pizza.
Anything on the Gianni’s menu marked with the “little early bird” is reduced on orders made before 6.30pm Sunday to Friday and before 6pm on Saturday. Obviously, exclusions and variations apply. We took advantage of the offer so all of our delicious food and a couple of drinks each came to less than £30. Bargain!
We’ll definitely visit Gianni’s again when we’re in the area. If you’re local to Scarborough then you should definitely give Gianni’s a try if you haven’t already.
To view their menu, find out more about their early bird offers and make a reservation you can visit their website.
Leave me a comment and let me know if you’ve ever visited a traditional Italian restaurant before. If so, tell me your favourites!
